I am a Border Terrier/Lakeland X Patterdale
George came into our care due to a change in circumstances. He is after an active home, with people over the age of 16 years old and no other pets at this time. Additionally, he will benefit from a more rural based home, due to him showing behaviours of not coping too well in build up area with lots of traffic. George is looking for a calm, gentle person who can visit the centre multiple times to build up a bond and some trust before he goes off on his new adventure.
Since being at our centre George has displayed behaviours which show that he is not very comfortable around his neck and shoulder area. He is now on pain relief to help with this. Along with the team helping George to build a more positive association around his walking equipment being put on and off his behaviour is improving, so it is important for his new family to continue with making this a good experience.
He is very eager to go out on walks and would benefit from learning how to walk on a loose lead to make these more enjoyable for both George and his owner.
George likes to keep items which he sees as high value and therefore has displayed some resource guarding around toys and food. An understanding of how to manage situations when George has access to these items is important. Further training will be needed to ensure he feels more relaxed when in possession of items when humans are around and to teach George a drop and leave cue.
George can respond well to training and is enthusiastic when high value treats are used for his rewards.
