This is the latest news on how Covid-19 is affecting our Branch services

Last updated: 06.07.2020

This information will be updated as and when necessary, and any major changes to our services will be communicated via our social media channels as well.

Martlesham Animal Centre:

Our animal rehoming centre at Martlesham remains closed to the public.

We are working on the COVID-Secure Risk Assessments as required by the government.  As soon as these are in place and the animal centre is considered COVID-Secure, we will start allowing adopters back on site on an appointment only basis.  Further details will be made available later this month.

We are continuing to only take in animals from the Inspectorate. If you have an emergency situation, please call 0300 1234 999.

If you have found injured or unwell wildlife, please call the National RSPCA Control Centre on 0300 1234 999.  We are currently unable to accept wildlife into the animal centre.

Our Vet Clinic:

On advice from our vets, our clinic at St Georges Street remains closed, however, we are working with the Barn vets to identify if and when a reduced service can begin and are working on the COVID-Secure Risk Assessment in order to ensure the clinic is COVID-Secure when services restart.

The following provisions are in place to help owners with pets in need of medication or veterinary treatment:

  • If your pet needs to see a vet, we have an arrangement with the Barn Vets. Please call the clinic to arrange an appointment on 01473 231972 on Tuesdays and Fridays between 11am – 1pm.
  • The Barn vets are now seeing clients who are due a six-monthly repeat prescription check, please follow the above process to arrange this.
  • Pets on long term medications can still order repeat prescriptions by calling 01473 231972 between 11am – 1pm on Tuesdays and Fridays and these will be posted to you. We will require payment in advance for these over the telephone.
  • We are sorry we cannot take on any new clients at present. If you are not a clinic client and have an emergency, please call 01473 231972 between the hours above or outside these hours call our Animal Centre on 0300 999 7321 or the National Emergency helpline 0300 1234 999.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Charity Shops

The majority of our shop managers have now returned to work and they are working on getting their shops ready for re-opening.  As with the animal centre and clinic, we are working on the COVID-Secure Risks Assessments to ensure they are COVID-Secure at time of opening. If you are holding on to donations for us, we would be most grateful if you could please continue to hold onto them while we get the shops set-up.  Unfortunately, in order to make the shops COVID-Secure we are having to change some of our layouts and procedures. As soon as we have confirmed reopening dates, we will publish the information on our website and on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Financial donations:

We’ve been truly touched by the offers of support we’ve received in these difficult times, to help us make sure our animals remain safe and well.

For those supporters who wish to make a financial donation, and are in a position to do so, that would be the best way to help us right now. We will continue to have our day to day running costs and anticipate increased cost in the coming months. To make a donation online you can do so via our Virgin Money Giving page. If you’d like to offer us long-term financial help, we have our Safe Haven animal pen sponsorship. Any amount you are able to give will make a difference – thank you.

Our team:

We are taking the threat posed by Covid-19 extremely seriously.

We are closely monitoring the ongoing situation and will continue to follow advice from the UK Government. As always, the safety and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, the public, and the animals in our care, is first and foremost.  We are taking all necessary steps to ensure we are able to protect their health and safety both now and in the future.

We have also implemented the recommendations of Public Health England and will continue to ensure that all our animals are being well cared for at all times. All staff members are being extra diligent in terms of self-care and personal hygiene, and are encouraged to self-isolate and call 111 if they experience symptoms or come into contact with anyone they know or suspect may have the virus.

We are grateful to everyone for their patience and understanding at such a difficult time for us all – please keep an eye on this page for further information. Stay safe everyone.
