Helping Animals in Need through Supermarket Collections in December

We are always in need of volunteers to help us with our collections – all we ask is 2 hours of your time and friendly dogs are very welcome!  We know that there are a lot of animal loves in Suffolk and we hope some of you will be able to help us raise money for animals in need through our collections.

We have the following collections coming up until the end of the year where we need your help.  Perhaps you will see us, come and say hello and donate a little?

  • Tesco at Stowmarket on 7th December
  • Co-Op at Wickham Market on 20th December

If you would like to help us or to find out more about helping with supermarket collections, please contact:

  • Ian Hendry on 01449 767747 (after 6pm) or ian.hendry@rspca-ipswich.org.uk

New collection dates for 2020 will follow shortly…

Quiz Night Results!

Our Quiz Night on 26 October at St Michael’s Church Centre, Martlesham Heath was a great success, raising a record-breaking £889.50 for our animal welfare work.

17 teams (85 people) enjoyed a fun quiz and delicious baked potatoes!    The winning team was “Hello Sailor” who beat the competition with 85 points out of 110!

Sincere thanks go to everyone who came along and supported the event, all those who helped on the night and those who donated raffle prizes.

Please keep an eye out on our website and Facebook page for the dates of our quiz nights in 2020.

Shop online and raise money for animals

On the 5th August 2019, the way you can donate to us when you shop with Amazon changed. If you search for Amazon on www.easyfundraising.org.uk or the easyfundraising App, you will be directed to AmazonSmile. You can still raise FREE donations for RSPCA Suffolk East & Ipswich Branch when you buy things from Amazon – you’ll just need to create a free account at smile.amazon.co.uk.

AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets you enjoy the same wide selection of products as their main site. But if you shop on smile.amazon.co.uk, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) to us – the charity of your choice.

Easy Fundraising is still around, just not for Amazon purchases. You can continue to use easyfundraising to shop with 4,000 other retailers. You can support the Branch when you shop online by signing up at

Rest assured, it doesn’t cost a penny extra to shop this way and you may even get yourself a few discounts.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who came to our Open Day on Sunday and to all the volunteers and staff who worked so hard to make the event happen. We raised a magnificent £2317.39.

It was a lovely sunny day, and not too hot for the dogs, so the fun dog show was as popular as ever. The BBQ and refreshments were busy, and the other stalls, including hoop-la, bric-a-brac, doggy treats and some lovely crafts, had a steady stream of customers.

There were definitely fewer people this year and money seemed to be more limited, impacting on the raffle, tombola and RSPCA logo goods, which all took less than usual.

But the total was still excellent and we’re grateful for all the kind people who helped – from setting up the gazebos to baking cakes, covering a stall to marshalling traffic. And an especial thank you to the staff and volunteers who stepped up to fill in at the last minute.

Our next events are our Quiz on October 26 and our Christmas Fair on November 9 at Holbrook. See our events section for more details.

Open Day & Fun Dog show returns

After being rained off last year, our annual open day and fun dog show returns to the Martlesham Animal Centre on Sunday 1st September (fingers crossed!)

Our traditional stalls, including raffle, tombola, RSPCA branded goods and bric-a-brac, will be there, along with a tasty BBQ and the ever-popular tea tent, with delicious cakes and savouries. Stalls already booked include animal themed cards, jewellery and novelties, gourmet dog treats, carved wooden decorations, children’s pocket money toys and glitter tattoos.

This is one of our main fundraising events, so please do come along and help us raise the money we need to go on helping animals in the local area.

The event opens at 11:30am. Dog Show registration is from 12 noon with judging from 1pm.

Rain didn’t stop play – new event raises over £350 for animals

Despite the weather – and Fathers’ Day – being against us, our first ever One Fun Day still managed to raise £377.78

Held in Earl Stonham Village Hall and on the local cricket pitch, our One Fun Day was part of a series of RSPCA events happening nationwide on the same day to raise awareness of our work and money for local animals in need.

Thank you to everyone who helped.

To Jean, Kathy and Lynn for running the refreshment and Jean, Kathy, Sue and Denice for their baking and other lovely eatables, and Stephen for his soup.

The Dog Show was ably judged by Geoffrey and Carrie – the Society’s Interim Field Ops Director – and well supported by Daniel and Melayna running the registration stall. Skinner’s Pet Food at Stradbrooke kindly donated dog food vouchers to first, second and third prize winners as well as to Best in Show.

John, Yvonne, Kate, Caroline and Julie and Jill braved the intermittent rain and constant, frolicksome wind, to run outdoor stalls, including one showing the quality items available from our Stowmarket shop, and John and Yvonne’s ever-popular books, DVDs and jigsaws stall.

One key element was getting everything, from gazebos to bunting, from Martlesham to the lovely Village Hall at Earl Stonham. Huge thanks to Daniel, Melayna, Caroline and Stephen for logistics and transportation.

Also thanks to Ren & her partner for help on the day and the HQ Campaigns stall – which looked fabulous – and Zoe and Neil for helping unpack at the MAC afterwards.

More thanks go to the non-RSPCA stallholders who brought a great range of goods, and themselves made kind donations to us on the day.

It was also the first outing of our new, commercial strength, gazebo, which was immovable in the wind and proved itself – to the heart-felt relief of all of us – 100% rainproof!

This was a lovely event, in an area of the Branch where we’ve no track record of activities, so we hope this will be the first in a long line of successful events that raise lots of money for animals in need.

Izzy and Elena’s Animal Day Out!

Izzy and Elena contacted us after they’d raised an amazing £60.00 for our animals by making and selling all kinds of wonderful arts and crafts at their school.

We thought what better way to thank them than to show them where the money they’ve raised will be spent (and who it will be spent on!).

Izzy and Elena especially loved meeting Sonny the Rabbit, and our very active litter of kittens, as well as getting to see a brand-new addition brought in to us during their visit… a tiny baby ferret!

If your school would like to get involved in a fundraising activity for our cause, please drop us an email for some great ideas!

Family Fun Day raises over £3,000!

We’ve counted up and are over the moon to announce we’ve raised an incredible £3,084.33

Thank you to everyone who attended our Family Fun Day on Sunday! We were slightly worried this year due to the extensive building work on site and restricted access making our field not totally ideal for such a big event, but we had nothing to worry about!

Thank you very much to our stall holders, volunteers and lovely supporters. You’ve helped us fundraise a significant amount of money which will go a long way in providing the best possible care for our animals.

We can’t wait for next year and to make it even bigger and even better.

Our next event is the new One Fun Day (with fun dog show) at Earl Stonham Village Hall on Sunday 16 June.

Great Quiz Night result

And the results are in – our quiz night on Saturday raised a magnificent £795 for animals in our local area.

We had 15 teams in total, and the winners were U3A with an impressive 120 out of 130. Thank you all for coming.

A big thank you to Stephen, Mary, Ian and Jean for the catering, Gill for her sterling work as scorer, plus of course Geoffrey for writing the quiz and being Quizmaster on the night.

We would also like to thank Ray and Dawn who kindly donated the wine for the winning team and Dawn also for doing the raffle. Even more thanks to everyone who donated a raffle prize.

Student art project helps local animals

Year 7 students at Gorseland Primary School have been working hard to transform our very old, tired collection dogs into fun, colourful pieces! The students have done incredibly well, and their imagination and artistic talents can be seen in the main reception area of our animal rehoming centre in Martlesham.

The collection dogs we have around our centre help us to raise funds for our Branch so we can continue to help animals in need. Gorseland Primary School has supported this project and the students have put their all into creating the perfect attraction to help raise funds for animal in Ipswich and the surrounding area.

If you work with children and would like to get involved in similar projects, please contact our centre manager Zoe Barrett at martlesham@rspca-ipswich.org.uk to find out more.
